Why Telenor is messed up…

Posted on October 19th, 2007 in Broadband, Gadgets and Gear | 15 Comments »

Telenors service is going from bad to worse. Literally. I have beentelenorlg2thumbnail.jpg trying to call their service center to activate my GPRS connection for 3 days to no avail - I call from my Telenor sim and get disconnected each time. Instead of paying pop stars millions to feature in their TV ads, Telenor should be doing something to fix their -basic -customer experience and network problems. Ali Zafar, find another commercial contract before people hate you for making them buy lousy cell phone service…!
Apparently, I’m not alone. TechLahore has had terrible problems with his/her subscription to Telenor’s Mobile TV service. My two cents on MobileTV : Its too expensive and I havent seen it the darn thing work on -ANYONE’s- mobile yet.

To be fair, I have 3 sims : Warid, Telenor and Mobilink, and all of them have their quirks and problems, there is no single perfect phone service, but , darn it, Telenors making me jump through too many hoops for basic GPRS service :(

Now that Microsoft has finally realized that pushing your new OS onto people andvista_downgrade-550×383.jpg organizations who don’t want it yet does not earn you any brownie points, they have decided to offer a downgrade (I think this is a first time btw) from Vista back to XP Pro. Read on to see how you can get a legal version of XP back onto your brand new laptops/PCs. Read the rest of this entry »

Pre-order your iPhone at MediaCenter

Posted on September 11th, 2007 in Gadgets and Gear | No Comments »

Earlier published a post about getting iPhones from Beliscity. Well, I just found a better (and a more solid warranty) deal thanks to Qurats comment on that post. Mediacenter, an Apple reseller is taking preorders for iPhones, their price is 50,000 PKR (still yikes but less than Beliscity’s 60,000 PKR) . If you want to order normally when its in stock, it will cost you between 38,000-49,000 PKR.

Orkut getting run over by Facebook?

Posted on August 1st, 2007 in Gadgets and Gear | 3 Comments »

If it isnt official, it will be soon. The Pakistani online flock seems to be migrating en masse to Facebook from orkut. Scraps have become less, friends are being added less and the facebook invitations are growing. Social Apps, especially in reserved cultures like ours become very popular very fast as much needed outlets for, well, alot of things. Reminds me of the time when everyone slowly but surely moved away from ICQ to MSN. Read the rest of this entry »

Sirf (siraf) Urdu.com

Posted on July 28th, 2007 in Gadgets and Gear | 3 Comments »

I came across this several months ago then it just hit me again so I thought i’d do a post on it, this is one of the more comprehensive Urdu portals, and unlike some site, which use images of handwritten urdu on the web, this is the real thing.when you type, you get urdu, so if you dont have an arabic/urdu keyboard it might be a bit tough. phonetics are similar though, so “baat” is b, a and then t, etc. Kudos to the author(s). Now if they made this into a framework for a blog site wouldnt that be cool?

Go here to visit the site : http://sirfurdu.com/

check it out, you might end up bookmarking it :)
PS the site was down for maintenance today, so it may not be up till later tonight…
