As managers, CEOs, and coders at technology outsourcing shops, we have to compete on an international level for work with firms from multiple countries. One competitive differentiator we can achieve (instead of just dropping the price) is to build very usable applications. Applications that people will like to and want to use. Hey, thats what makes Apple different from, well, everyone out there.
As a start to raising awareness and moving in this direction, I will be faciliating a discussion on user centered application design this Sunday at the P@SHA career Expo. We will start with a small presentation to get things rolling and then deep dive into discussion and brainstorming. The aim is to understand the importance of UI to users and how do firms inject a process into their development cycles to better their applications.
When : July 20, 2008, 2 pm - 3 pm
Where: Ambassador 3, Marriott Hotel, Karachi
Along with this, there is also going to be a web development SiG at the event managed by Aleem, so dont miss that. Both SiGs are back to back.

If you need to build some mindshare, get your brand out there, and attract young talent then the P@SHA 2008 Career Fair is where you need to be this July. Signing up gets you a 3×3 booth, a counter, 2 chairs and a window of opportunity to network, interview, and market your company that comes, maybe, once a year.
The Karachi event happens on July 20th, followed by Pindi (July 27th) and Lahore (August 4th).
Also, thank you organizers for setting up the fair this time at the Marriott. Much more accessible, easier and overall better than doing this at the expo center.

…is coming up on June 17th. The two day event should highlight financial technology companies, and should be a good spot to network, discover and talk to the relevant players in the growing industry.
The event is supported by P@SHA and PSEB as well.
Sounds like our own little MEFTEC….

Intel and P@SHA are hosting a one day workshop/discussion on implementing technology solutions in areas that are considered non traditional… such as data entry without a keyboard, and local area VOIP solutions. This is a largely unaddressed, potentially highly profitable market, and more importantly, would have a high impact on development of rural areas, for example.
One of the more notable examples of creating new solutions, products and penerating non traditional markets is that of Grameen Bank, whose founder is now Nobel peace prize winner (and needless to say now has a very high net worth while helping thousands of people out of difficult situations).
Vickram Chrisna (IIT, CEO of RadioPhony) is leading the discussion. Promises to be a very eye opening and interesting event.
Times and dates are below and full details are on Jehan’s Blog
Date: Tuesday, April 8 2008
Venue: Mahnoor Room, Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi
Time: 2 pm - 5 pm
Kudos to Intel for supporting such refreshing and innovative events to the local IT Industry. I’ll probably be there to cover the event and possibly so a live blog post on it if I bring my laptop along.

I’ve done posts on this topic before, and here I go again. Presentation skills generally in the IT industry are deplorable. Aside from very few (3-5) companies, the other 900 or so really need their human resources to come upto par with presentation, brand skill and overall polish. If you want to win a multi-million dollar contract, you need to look like you can handle a multi-million dollar contract. You need to be able to explain complex technology and why the CEO across the table (who does not give a $#$# if its java or php ) should trust you to solve his problem. In short, YOU are the company at that point in time. (hmmm no pressure now..) and you need to look like a star.
Well, if you think can hack it with the best of them, here is your chance : There is a P@sha sponsored workshop coming up here and this half day workshop is on the following days:
Karachi - January 26, 2008 - 2 pm to 5 pm - Marriott Hotel
Lahore - January 28, 2008 - 2 pm to 5 pm
Seat are limited, full details are on Jehan’s blog. Costs are just 4,000 per person, and on the top of some learning, its a great networking event too.
( Btw I’m not being paid to say all this
in case you thought I sold out! I will be attending the workshop as well, ping me if you come . )

ITCN is around the corner! Yes, in 2 days the most visited local exhibition of vendors, technologies, companies ,etc starts at the expo center. Lets hope its worthwhile this year , last year it looked more like just a telecom conference/show than an IT show
Look for some possible signings/deals and annoucements to happen here.
