Post - Budget roundup : The verdict? Everything’s more $$$
Business Tech, Uncategorized Add commentsBasically, the budget 2008 killed any hope the local IT hardware industry of getting some accelerated help to grow from the powers that be. Here are the few major items that will hit the hardware industry and increase the software industry’s costs as well.
- GST gone up from 15% to 16% (ouch)
- LC’s will be more difficult to setup for imports/exports due to the larger upfront cash requirements (new SBP regulations). This means high end technology that usually got imported easily will now have increased problems, so one will see more trouble getting in large scale servers/SANs/hardware.
- Cellphones are more expensive, a tax of Rs 500 has been introduced on -every- phone. this means that SMS/MMS/VAS services provided by the Telco’s might get affected too. To be fair, this also gives a player incentive to start assembling local phones to avoid the tax. Inbox-style local cellphones, anyone? (thank you Jawwad for pointing out the silver lining).
So, everythings more expensive. wheeee!
(what else can you say…)

Welcome to democracy!

When the soaring prices for flour, rice, sugar and petrol/CNG push the common man to think about suicidal alternatives, then computer parts/accessories/systems become a secondary priority and luxury to think about.
The global Oil crises is and will going to cost lives across the countries. So why would the technical gadgetry not be a victim of it. And the condition is the same in all major countries where even in US people are thinking to drive less this summer.
Just to add, using all these thing cost electricity at your place/office, which already has seen an increase in the rates at least twice/thrice in 2007-2008 and now i have heard that the government has withdrawn the subsidy on these utilities, which means an additional amount directly passed on to the consumer…
Pushed into the dark ages my advice for us is stop being tech-savvy all the time and only use these things at the time of need/earning bread out of it.
You can choose to agree or not…
