Maxcom reduces rates, increases bandwidth..again

Broadband, Business Tech Add comments

Maxcom has reduced rates (or increased bandwidth, however you look at it) for all is users. Now everyone’s speed gets doubled, this means that, atleast for me, I now pay Rs 1800/month (At home) for a 512kbps connection and i get 55kb/sec down at all times. Yay!  :)

New rates here.

In fairly short time, Maxcom seems to have climbed to the top of the list of many dsl users as the ISP of choice. With Cybernet’s marketing and support in ruins, Maxcom has taken decent marketshare from cyber and others. But competition in the Broadband space is abound now,and with reduces fees to the ISP, this seems to be a way to to keep up with the competition’s attempt to undercut pricing. In my view, for internet access, service reliability and support are more important than price. Which is why I scoff at PTCL and Link dot nets’ cheaper rates (with hidden costs mind you) and stick to Maxcom. One (high) price, but reliable connectivity. Helps me sleep well at night…

Yes, I’d agree with you on the reliability issue. It is really annoying and frustrating to be a victim of network connectivity issues. I have worldcall for my ISP provider even they are upgrading the users to a higher bandwidth keeping the prices the same. My question is does maxcom provide a local ftp service, providing entertainment or other local sharing hubs like via DC++? because if they do i’d switch to maxcom immediately since everyone knows that worldcall has serious connectivity issues with an aweful customer service.

Do check what is your uplink.I was getting 128K uplink I upgraded it to 256K.

just write http://192.168.1.1 in your browser and chck it.In case you have 128 you can email it to their support staff for the upgrade. It takes one business day to upgrade your uplink.

@newbie: Amyn they do have an ftp but it isnt that goood.

You know between Wordlcall, Wateen, PTCL, Maxcom and WOL/LinkDOTNet, (since our business depends on Internet connectivity), everyone one of them has their nusance value, while at the same time everyone shines. What is good about Maxcom and LinkDOTNet is the telephone support. Whilst with Worldcall, Wateen and least of all PTCL, its very dicey. You have no idea if the problem you are having will be resolved or not.

Last mile remains a serious issue. But with Wateen, they have other issues, (DNS is one of them, which is also with almost all the other ISPs, why can’t they invest in a decent DNS appliance). Latency, and port blocking is what irritates the most.

The only way we ‘eased’ this frustration, is by getting an aggregator appliance, that ties in all the WAN links into a singular one. So we are essentially using 4-5 DSLs as one. SO even if one goes down, we don’t have to go and change settings or immediate work disruptions.

Faisal, ive been looking for a decent aggregator device for quite awhile. i also bought some and none of them seemed to work, can you suggest one? and how much did it cost?

I think worldcall did something like that a few months back….Maxcom follows suit….last I heard…Maxcom sounded like just another ISP…but I guess they have come out…rom wilderness to get their market share…

For the life of me I thought Ihad posted earlier about the DSL aggregators - anywhere - here goes again. The two DSL aggregators (or rather WAN aggregators) available are Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 35,000. The 15k wala has 4 WAN links and supports 60-80 users, whilst the 35k wala has 5 WAN links and supports 200 or so users. Please do note, an aggregator will NOT bind your DSLs together. What you do have is the luxuary of using all of them at one. You can say for example be using DSL#1 only for FTP and MSN and IM, etc. whilst DSL #2 and DSL# 3 can be used for HTTP and Mail. Your session is ONLY established at one DSL line and should that line drop - your session will die. There are a multitude of ways of load-balancing your traffic (in and out) and requests from users.

The importance of a DSL aggregator is that you can have multiple services running through different DSLs and not have to worry about configuring your network for each working DSL (specially if you have multiple WAN connections). Its a good box to have - try it.
