PTA blocks Youtube in Pakistan.

I am SUPER pissed. I mean, WTF?! (excuse my french) Youtube has been blocked in Pakistan, leaving thousands of instructional, knowledge building , and great videos out of reach of 160 million Pakistanis. The PTA apparently (as per the news article) had blocked one objectional page on youtube, but ISPs have blocked out the entire site?!

Once again, we, by our people, are locked out of progress and change. I’m just ticked off now. Several other video sites still work, for the time being. If you remember, they also blocked blogger.com for a long time as well. That didnt last. I hope this doesnt.

Thats strange, I have youtube.com open in my browser and it is working as always and I am in Karachi (Cyber net DSL).
maybe cyber hasnt done it yet. ptcl, maxcomm,etc are blocking it.

well, im using Worldcall (Lahore) and just checked, youtube isnt opening…
Youtube is blocked at PIE so every provider using PIE will be effected and I’ve also heard that the site has also been blocked at TWA, don’t know about FLAG, as Cyber uses FLAG so this may be the reason for youtube working at Cyber
i wonder whats wrong with our authorities? Like all they could think was to use some danish guys action to block a whole nation of 160 million HUMANS (ok lets just say 20-30% of them) to be deprived of a plethora of knowledge. First it was blogs and now Youtube..whats next? Google i suppose!

i think Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has done right thing by blocking youtube they have to remove cartoons of Hazrat Muhammad

youtube encourages people to insult us. i have complained about some very degrading videos but they never take action. they only block Muslims.

does anyone know the amount of learning and scientific knowledge available on youtube?
blocking youtube is not a solution for anything. why does closing your eyes to a problem make you people happy? if there is a problem, be proactive about it - put up positive video’s. if you want to prove someone wrong, do it by being smarter, not by hiding.
the sole problem i always had with islamic world was our lack of intellectual reasoning against what we considered ‘wrong’. From salman rushdie to danish cartoons, its the same trick where we have lost our effectiveness as an intellectual creed. Btw, some of the most pro-islamic videos are also there on the youtube….so, lets just kill the knowledge.
