On the Emergency…finally (or..Has it had any affect on the IT industry?)

Unlike alot of blogs…i didnt write about the emergency at all on this blog. Until now…Overall, did it have an effect? Well, no. Not really. Actually, hardly. We were more concerned about traffic jams and not being able to get to work. Nowadays all seems normal.

Where it did have some impact is on the Outsourcing section of the IT industry…we had to get off our feet again, roll our eyes at the situation and go “oh crap, sigh. here we go again…” and then call up our customers , explain the situation, deal with it and make sure the Indian firms dont sell or steal our clients by playing the “fear card” that they are so fond of pulling out everytime  anything as small as a firecracker goes off in Pakistan.

But yes, Pakistan does suffer from a misperception problem and has for some time now, and we all are acutely aware sad situation, and so are most of our core customers. And despite that the clients and customers are still here. and still coming. That should say something, not just about our reliability but also about our quality of work. A 2 billion dollar market is still alive and kicking , despite an emergency. THAT should say something.

I think, we have to accept the fact that we’ll have to deal with the politicians throwing mud our way unintentionally (or otherwise) every time we try to do a good job promoting the country for what it really is.  Short term goals like keeping a parliment together are more important to them.
